Showstoppers

  1. Someone else, maybe CISCO, have done it already, or hold a patent.
  2. Telco's can lock off access by:-
    1. not providing ISP connections
    2. prohibitivly pricing ISP connections
  3. Telco's can refuse to interconnect voice with their networks - OR charge crippling interconnect charges. 3.45c/min! Will this reduce for _local_ exchange access?
  4. Manufacturers, Merchants, ISP's may not be willing/interested.
  5. Unable to get funding to develop prototype, pilot production, final versions.
  6. May miss window of opportunity. Patent doesnt offer any real protection.
  7. There may unexpected technical problems/show stoppers.
  8. Need more input - eg Maestro, Dynamite, others....
  9. Copyright/Userright MUST be solved first. Have to collect royalties & offer CD like protection to artists. [But not more than they already have/expect].
  10. What about the BIG software players - IBM and Microsoft.
  11. Both will produce a product and compete. Especially in the SOHO, SME markets.

  12. Netserver replaces operating systems. Applications written in JAVA will run happily.
  13. WHAT should netserver Apps be written in???? NOT CLEAR.
  14. General Automation will build set top boxes. Friend or foe.
  15. Net TV/Web TV...
  16. The impact of flat screen monitors - a la combank.
  17. ORACLE - friend or foe. How can it be useful for them? Net-terminal.
  18. Not clear how to do updates/upgrades on the fly. Rollback, lock ups.
  19. A staged roll out would be better and quicker..... But how?
  20. Netserver must not have reboot rate of more than once per unit in 5 years. Can this be done with FreeBSD, Linux as bases.
  21. Will Lucent/Bell Labs king-hit this? P9 & Inferno.
  22. If I can think of it in ISOLATION - won't someone with funds working on top of the market have already come up with it. Like AXIS print servers?
  23. BIG networking companies - CISCO & Bay & 3COM.
  24. They will produce product & compete.

  25. Much of the future is based on high bandwidth Digital Subscriber Loops. How will this be achieved?? NOBODY is getting stuck into this... FM Radio seems interesting.
  26. ISDN - what will they do with this?
